Key Regional Industries

Mining & Materials

Duchesne County produces more than 95,000 barrels of oil a day, more than any county in Utah. As extraction and mineral support activities continue to expand, Northeastern Utah is strengthening its role in the state’s resource economy.

Manufacturing

Northeastern Utah’s manufacturing activity centers on the equipment and machinery that support its mining and energy operations. As extraction continues to grow, so does the demand for local fabrication, repair, and equipment services.

Transportation & Logistics

Specialized freight trucking is one of Northeastern Utah’s leading industries, moving resources extracted across the region to markets beyond it. As production continues to grow, the region’s logistics network is becoming an increasingly important part of Utah’s supply chain.

Natural Resources

What This Region Pulls from the Ground

Northeastern Utah’s natural resource base gives energy and chemical companies a built-in supply chain advantage. Energy, petroleum, road paving, oil and gas, nuclear power, agriculture, fertilizer, and chemical industries all draw on raw materials sourced right here in the region. The region is also home to one of the world’s only sources of gilsonite, found almost nowhere else on Earth. Used in asphalt, paint, ink and more, it’s been mined here since the late 1800s.

Local Raw Materials: Gilsonite, Oil Sands, Oil Shale, Phosphate, Uranium
