President's Message
Golf for Grants Tournament a Great Success
Thank you to our investors and sponsors of the 2010 EDCUtah Golf Tournament, which was held at Eaglewood Golf Course. I would like to pay special recognition to CB Richard Ellis as our Platinum Sponsor, and also thank all of our other investor sponsors. Without your help we would not be able to hold this important event. I would also like to recognize Arthur Franks, membership director for EDCUtah, and the entire staff for a job well done. Thank you. The Golf for Grants Tournament supports the EDCUtah Match Grant Program. Since the Match Grant Program's inception in 1989, EDCUtah has awarded more than $815,000 to communities and organizations in all 29 of Utah's counties.
The next EDCUtah event you will NOT want to miss is the June Quarterly Investor Update on June 29, 2010 at the Doty Center at Intermountain Healthcare. We will be recognizing our long-time board member and staff member Lynn Pett. His contribution to Utah and economic development is impressive, to say the least. Come celebrate with us as we wish him well in his retirement. RSVP to Eileen Burt, our marketing coordinator, (801) 323-4249.

Feature Story
EDCUtah's 2010 Golf for Grants Tournament Raises Money for a Great Cause
Economic development is generally serious business, but every year a friendly golf competition is worked into the mix as EDCUtah investors and friends compete for prizes and bragging rights during the annual Golf for Grants Tournament.
Such was the case on June 2, when 35 teams totaling 140 golfers converged at Eaglewood Golf Course for a tournament filled with fun, networking, and golf -- all in an effort to raise money for EDCUtah's Match Grant Program. The Match Grant program is a statewide initiative that supports specific economic development efforts at the grassroots level by the public sector and other non-profit organizations.
Top finishers in the 2010 Match Grant Golf Tournament were:
1st Place: CB Richard Ellis Team 1A
- Scott Wilmarth
- Steve Richins
- Tab Cornelison
- John Morgan
2nd Place: Penna Powers Brian Haynes (PPBH)
- Mike Brian
- Nile Easton
- Monty King
- Dave Smith
3rd Place: Temple Square Hospitality
- Neil Wilkinson
- Brent Shingleton
- Spencer Herzog
- Juan Canals
Art Franks, EDCUtah's director of membership development, says every golfer was a winner, thanks to the generous support of the tournament sponsors.
"The fun factor was very high throughout the tournament, and our sponsors did a great job at their assigned holes to keep the golfers entertained," Franks says. "Everyone had a great time competing for prizes and we are deeply grateful to our sponsors for supporting another fun and exciting tournament."

Sherrie Martell, EDCUtah's certified sites manager, notes that the deadline to apply for the next round of match grants is September 1, so those organizations interested in applying for matching grants should start working on their applications now.
"Every year EDCUtah receives dozens of grant requests," says Franks. "Through the generous support of Golf for Grants sponsors and participants, we are able to raise enough money to fund many worthwhile projects that support economic development in Utah's cities and counties."
